The Beautiful Beginnings, the Failure to Learn
The Beautiful Beginnings, Fifty Years of Public Housing written by Elizabeth Wood with the support of Jackie Amont is now only available for you through the Tech Center. Theres a quote somewhere that says something about those who are not mindful of history are doomed to repeat it.The Tech Center Staff have the opinion that public housing executives need a strong sense of the history of the program as a framework for the challenges of today.
To that end, we have reproduced a volume that was written by one of the contributors to the 1937 Housing Act, the founding executive director of the Chicago Housing Authority, and the social conscience of central office HUD for a number of years. Her wisdom, experience and passion for the role of public housing in serving those populations unable to compete effectively for shelter in the private marketplace is both powerful and valuable to our needs today.
